2/16/2017: Guggisberg Cheese, Inc. and Deutsch Kase Haus, LLC voluntarily recall certain cheese due to potential Listeria monocytogenes

Out of an abundance of caution and with an emphasis on its customers’ wellness and safety, Guggisberg Cheese, Inc. and Deutsch Kase Haus, LLC are voluntarily recalling certain cheese produced at the Middlebury, IN, facility, due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. No reports have been received of any consumer illness or injuries to date.

The recalled products are:

  • Co-Jack (Marble) deli horns & long horns
  • Colby deli horns and long horns
  • Monterey Jack long horns
  • Pepper Jack, deli horns & long horns
  • Amish Creamery long horns
  • Cheddar deli horns
  • Thunder Jack deli horns
  • Farmers Cheese deli horns
  • Cheese with Yogurt cultures deli horns
  • Cheese with Garden Vegetables deli horns
  • Cheese with Salsa deli horns

These products were manufactured between September 1, 2016 through Jan 27, 2017.

East End Food Co-op products impacted by the recall are:

1. Pepper Jack, Guggisberg: Millersburg, OH. Identified by first six numbers of UPC: 202229
2. Amish Colby Jack. First six numbers of UPC:  200501

12/30/2016: Stone Meadow Farm raw 60-day aged Havarti cheese and raw 60-day aged Colby cheese Due to possible Staphylococcus Aureus.

The Agriculture Department has issued a warning to consumers of Stone Meadow Farm raw 60-day aged Havarti cheese and raw 60-day Colby cheese due to possible Staphylococcus Aureus. All affected products have been removed from the East End Food Co-op shelves. Customers may return the product to Customer Service for a refund.  Products with packed on dates of 12/30/16 or later and sell by dates of 3/30/17 or later are safe for consumption and were not part of this recall. 12/12/2016:Boulder Brands, Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Earth Balance Vegan White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Mac & Cheese Due to Possible Dairy Allergen Contamination

Earth Balance White Cheddar Mac & Cheese and Earth Balance Vegan Cheddar Max & Cheese have been voluntarily recalled due to possible dairy allergen contamination. All affected products have been removed from the East End Food Co-op shelves. Customers who purchased affected products from the East End Food Co-op can return the product to Customer Service for a full refund.

6/9/2016: Aura Cacia USB Essential Oil Diffuser – Aromatherapy Air – Voluntary Recall

Aura Cacia has issued a voluntary recall on their USB Essential Oil Diffuser – Aromatherapy Air product due to a malfunction of the wick mechanism. All affected items have been pulled from our shelves. Any customer that purchased this item from the Co-op should return it at Customer Service for a full refund. 6/6/2016: MaraNatha Sunflower Seed Butter – Hint of Sea Salt – Voluntary Recall

MaraNatha Sunflower Seed Butter – Hint of Sea Salt with best by dates ranging from July 28, 2016 thru December 5, 2016 have been voluntary recalled due to the potential risk of Listeria contamination. All affected products have been pulled from our shelves. Customers Consumers do not need to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Instead, consumers are urged to dispose of the recalled product and its container. 4/8/2016: High Mowing Seeds Packing Error

High Mowing Seeds Belstar F1 Broccoli seeds were mistakenly packed with a Napa cabbage instead of the Belstar F1 broccoli.  Belstar F1 broccoli Lot# BEJ19-14 has been discontinued and pulled from our shelves. Customers may return these seed packets to Customer Service for a full refund.

3/9/2016: Cadia Almondmilk Voluntary Recall

Cadia is voluntary withdrawing Almondmilk from the market due to a labeling issue on their 32 oz. carton. The language “refrigerate after opening” was inadvertently left off the label. Customers may return this product to Customer Service for a refund. The following lots have been recalled:

2/3/2016: Garden of Life Raw Meal Organic Shake & Meal Products Voluntary Recall

Garden of Life LLC is voluntarily withdrawing a limited quantity of its Raw Meal Organic Shake & Meal Chocolate, Original, Vanilla and Vanilla Chai because they have the potential to contain Salmonella Virchow. Even though Garden of Life routinely performs pathogen testing on every finished good lot to ensure safety and no product has ever tested positive for the presence of Salmonella, the company felt it was in the public’s best interest to take this voluntary action. All effected products have been removed from the East End Food Co-op’s shelves. Customers who purchased Garden of Life Raw Meal Organic Shake & Meal products from the East End Food Co-op can return the product to Customer Service for a full refund. 4/23/2015: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Voluntary Recall

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has initiated a voluntary recall of all ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and ice cream sandwiches for all flavors and containers because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The company is ceasing all sales and closing all scoop shops until all products are ensured to be 100% safe. All effected products have been removed from the East End Food Co-op shelves. 4/8/2015: Voluntary Class II Recall for Nourish Organic Face Lotion and Nourish Organic Face Cream

A voluntary recall of Nourish Organic Argan and Rosewater Face Lotion, 1.7oz, and Nourish Organic Argan and Pomegranate Face Cream, 1.7oz has been issued due to mold. If you purchased either of these products from the East End Food Co-op, please return it to Customer Service for a refund. All recalled items have been removed from our shelves.

4/8/2015: Hope Foods Issues Allergy Alert and Voluntary Recall on Undeclared Walnuts in Kale Pesto Hummus

Hope Foods is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Kale Pesto Hummus because it contains undeclared walnuts. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. The hummus is safe for consumption by those who do not have walnut allergies. The affected product was distributed in 8 oz plastic tubs and is marked with a Best By date of 05/04/15 and Lot Code of 030215-KP which can be found on the side of the lid. The unit UPC is 8-56500-00426-6. All affected product has been removed from our shelves. 3/24/2015: Voluntary Recall by Carmel Food Group

Carmel Food Group today issued a voluntary recall of certain Rising Moon Organics frozen Ravioli items, because of possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The frozen ravioli products were produced with organic spinach which was found in test results performed by the spinach supplier to show the presence of Listeria. The recall was initiated when it was discovered that certain lots of the listed items were produced with the ingredient in question.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirths among pregnant women.

3/17/2015: Voluntary Class 1 Recall by Frontier Co-op

Frontier Co-op is voluntarily recalling several of its products manufactured with organic garlic powder that were sold under its Frontier and Simply Organic brands, and one product sold under the Whole Foods Market brand due to potential Salmonella contamination. To date, no illnesses have been associated with these products. For a complete list of affected products, please visit the FDA website.

12/18/14: Voluntary Recall of Bleating Heart Cheese  Fat Bottom Girl lot 275-2 and Fat Bottom Girl lot 287-1.

Sold between October 14, 2014 and December 17, 2014. The cheese is being recalled due to some positive testing for Listeria Monocytogenes. This can cause severe illness in people with compromised immune systems, and people who are pregnant. No illnesses have been reported. Please return any of this cheese to Customer Service for a full refund.

11/1/2016: Wild Planet – Product Recall

Wild Planet, Organic Roasted Chicken Breast, No Salt Added, 5 oz can with a Sell By date of 1-16-18 has been recalled due to foreign matter in the product.  UPC: 0-28969-60022-0.  The affected product has been removed from our shelves. 10/31/2016: Back to Nature – Product Recall and Allergy Alert for Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Mini Chocolate Chunk Cookies and Chocolate Granola Due to Undeclared Milk

Back to Nature Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling four (4) products because those products contain chocolate purchased from a third party supplier which was found to contain undeclared Milk that is not listed as an ingredient on the label.

Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The affected Cookie and Granola products were distributed to retail stores nationwide. No other products or best by dates are affected.

Best by date codes can be found on the top of the bottom of the Granola packaging, the top of the Chocolate Chunk 9.5 oz carton, and on the back of the Mini Chocolate Chunk Tray or individual package.

Consumers who have purchased the Back to Nature Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Mini Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Chocolate Delight Granola, or Dark Chocolate Granola with the UPC numbers and dates noted, and have an allergy to milk, should destroy the product they have or are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for product replacement or refund.
