How will the funds be used? The funds will be used to support 1Hood’s general operating and in particular, to help amplify our work as cultural organizers – how we use art and culture to shift power, activate communities, and connect creative practices with organizing strategies. We are updating one of our five pillars in 2024 from Activism to Cultural Organizing – these funds will provide flexible funding that will help us lean into and amplify this shift, allowing us to be responsive and flexible to community needs including providing artistic and cultural expressions as key parts of outreach and programming strategies.  We believe art is the best way to challenge injustice, raise awareness and unify humanity.

Landforce

201 N. Braddock Ave. #230 Pittsburgh, PA 15208

Type of organization: Other – Environmental and Workforce Development

Neighborhood(s) served: We operate within different layers of the community. While Landforce serves Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh, we are not limited to one neighborhood, and we don’t recruit from a single group of individuals.

Mission/description: Landforce is a local nonprofit with the dual mission of empowering people, while protecting land. We are a workforce development program and environmental organization, recruiting up to 22 folks per year to complete paid, professional land stewardship projects. These contracts include trail building and restoration, vacant lot redevelopment, invasive species management, and stormwater mitigation amongst other special projects.

How will the funds be used? As you may know, funders often are excited about the programmatic details and successes of programming. Which, we are equally excited about and focused on. However, for nonprofits to be fully functional, it is necessary to have non-project specific funding available to be prepared and plan for the unexpected, pay the rent, and of course our beloved staff that are integral to our success. If awarded as a Round Up recipient Landforce would prioritize these donations for operational expenses.
