Ingredients

  • 5-6 inch lbs. medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced thick
  • 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup uncooked oats
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose or gluten free flour
  • 1/2 stick of cold unsalted butter cut into small pieces, plus extra for coating the dish

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Coat an 8-by-8-inch baking dish with butter.
  3. Mix the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon of the salt in a large bowl and toss to coat.
  4. Put the apple mixture in the baking dish and set aside.
  5. Mix together the brown sugar, oats, flour, and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt.
  6. With a fork, blend in the butter pieces until small clumps form and the butter is well incorporated.
  7. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake until crispy and the apples are tender, about 40 to 45 minutes.
  9. Top with Vanilla Ice Cream or Fresh Whipped Cream.
